Genetic Engineering is a controlled manipulation of the genes in an organism with the intention of that organism to make better in some way. This course of Engineering carries potential dangers such as creation of toxins, harm to wild life and the creation of environments. This is done independently of the reproductive process which is generally called genetics modified organism (GMO). Genetics engineers have claim that it has numerous benefits including the food bearing plants that are resistant to disease, insect infestations, extreme weather and climate. It seems the possibility to create biological weapons by using this technology. This is also known as genetic modification. It refers to a set of technologies that used to change the genetic cells and move genes across to produce novel organism.

Through this engineering organism are given new combinations of genes. Genetic Engineering is a new technology that promises to revolutionize the world in different aspects, especially in food production and other areas. This mainly involves the creation of DNA which is inserted into the genetic material of cell. This technique has applied in various fields which include agriculture, medicine, research etc. From target organism, genetic material can be removed by this technique. To be a successful genetic engineer one has to be sharp minded, high level of concentrations, lively imaginations, can work as a team and have a moral sense.

Basic Eligibility

To get admission in bachelor degree in Genetic Engineering candidates must possess a higher secondary school certificate (10+2) examination in biology, maths and chemistry subject. For IITs it is mandatory to qualify in Joint Entrance Examination (J.E.E) and All India Engineering/Pharmacy/Architecture Entrance Examination (AIEEE). The duration of this course is up to 4 years.

To pursue a master degree course in Genetic Engineering, students must possess a bachelor degree in (B.E/B.Tech) or anything equivalent to it. The course duration is of this course 2 years.


Eligibility for Diploma Courses: -

To pursue diploma course in Genetic Engineering, candidates must possess a 10+2 pass certificate in science stream from a recognized board.
