Fashion designing is the way by which designers express their clothing and other lifestyle accessories. It is divided in two parts: haute couture and ready-to-wear. The first one is dedicated to certain customers & is custom sized to fit this customer exactly. A haute couture designer has to show a new collection twice a year presenting a minimum of 35 different outfits each time. Ready-to-wear collections are not custom made; they are standard sized, so they are more suitable to run large production. They are divided in two phases: designer/creature and confection collections. Designer collections have a higher quality as well as an unique design. They signify certain philosophy and are created to make statement rather than for sale. Both ready-to-wear and haute-couture collections are presented on international catwalks.

For being a designer you must have an artistic and creative personality. You must have the knowledge of how to express your ideas through sketches and special skill for combining colors, tones and shades. You must be able to work with fabrics and use textiles in a creative and original manner. A perfect designer must have visual imagination and are able to think in three-dimensions and put their ideas into garments. They must be aware about the market requirements. They need to update themselves every time according to the new trends. They can attend art exhibitions shows and can interact with all kinds of artist. A designer should also have some knowledge and experience of tailoring (cutting, draping, sewing etc.) and be able to tell the difference between different fabric quality levels. But most important, they have to be very original and have fresh, innovative ideas.
