Civil Engineering is the oldest engineering field after military engineering. This course distinguishes between non-military engineering to military engineering. It is the professional engineering course that use in the design, construction and maintenance of the physical environment like roads, canals, bridge, dams, highways, railways, waterways, airports, doc, harbors and buildings etc.

It is divided into many parts including geotechnical engineering, environmental engineering, geophysics, control engineering, biomechanics, atmospheric science, Nano science, forensic engineering, earth science, materials engineering, water recourses engineering and the main part construction engineering.

This course provides the practical and theoretical knowledge of construction area. In this course all the engineering subjects as well as the professional knowledge with latest equipment are provided for the candidates. The field of civil engineering is about creating new things. The candidates learn many new skills and also how to apply it and execute it in the practical way. This course requires strong background in the physical and mathematical science. Civil engineering is very challenging and hardworking profession but it is also a rewarding field.


B. Tech: Candidate should have passed the 10+2 examination conduct by any recognized board/university with minimum 50 % marks. This course is of 4 year degree program. Each year consist 2 semesters each of 6 months there for there are total 8 semesters.

M. Tech:To take admission in M. Tech course candidate have to complete their B. Tech from any recognized university or college with good marks.

Admission Procedure:

The admission in mostly all the colleges is based on state level competitive exam. Take an Example of colleges present in Orissa state it take a combine entrance exam called Orissa JEE. Many others entrance exam like IIT, AIEEE are also give the admission in IIT colleges. Some autonomous colleges take own entrance test separately.

Career Prospects:

This field is fully of job opportunity in private sectors as well as in public sector. There are many jobs available for civil engineers like Airport engineer, waterworks engineer, geological engineer, geologist, highway designer, mining engineering etc.
