Ayurvedic Medicine & Surgery also abbreviated as A.M.S is a medical academic degree in India. It is for those who have studied the integrated system of modern medicine and traditional ayurveda. UG - The eligibility criteria for B.A.M.S is 10+2 from recognized school or college with subjects of Physics, Chemistry and Biology or should have qualify in All India Pre Medical Entrance Exam conducted by C.B.S.E. or should have cleared All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) entrance exam.

PG – Candidates who have passed B.A.M.S. from any recognized Colleges or University can apply for post graduate programmes.


The course duration for UG programmes is for six years. The main course is conducted over a period of five years and after the successful completion of fifth year, one year of internship of ayurvedic hospitals should be completed.

For PG programmes the course duration is for 3 years.

Career Prospects in Ayurvedic Medicine & Surgery

After successfully completion of this course there are many job opportunities in India as well as out of India. They can start their own practice or can open a shop of ayurveda, otherwise they can get an employment of doctor in government and private Ayurveda hospitals. Today there are many opportunities for B.A.M.S graduates. Ayurveda doctors can work in ayurvedic preparations. They can also work in ayurvedic college as a professor or do a research. Ayurvedic medicines are increasing and with this they are getting popular in other countries also and with this popularity Ayuevedic doctors are in high demand.
