CLAT 2018 entrance exam

Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) is the most popular law entrance exam in India which can be applied only after completing the Class XII.

CLAT 2018 entrance exam is conducted by The National University of Advanced Legal Studies (NUALS). This exam is conducted every year to select students for 19 National Law Universities in India. Excluding, National Law University-Delhi and HP National Law University-Shimla. As these universities follows their own selection procedure.

After clearing the CLAT entrance test candidate can easily get admission into streams like BA LLB (Hons), BSc LLB (Hons), BBA LLB (Hons), BSW LLB (Hons), BCom LLB (Hons) and LLM programmes offer at the NLUs.

Eligibility Criteria For CLAT 2018 Exam

Before approaching to apply for the CLAT 2018 exam candidates are requested to have a look over the following eligibility criteria. If they match all criteria then only he/she will be eligible to apply for this law entrance exam.

Undergraduate Program (Five Year Integrated LLB (Hons) Course) 

Must have passed 10+2 or equivalent exam with minimum:

  • 45% marks if the candidate comes under the Unreserved/OBC/Speciality Abled Persons (SAP)/NRI/NRI sponsored categories
  • 40% marks if the candidate belongs to SC/ST categories.
  • Those who are appearing in the last semester of +2 exams are also eligible to apply for this exam.

Age Limit:

Applicant must be under 20 years of age if the candidate belongs to Unreserved/NRI/NRI sponsored categories. Whereas for SC/ST /OBC/SAP categories candidates age limit set is 22 years as 0n1st July 2018.

Post-Graduate Programme (One Year LLM Course)

Candidate must have passed LLB or equivalent degree examination with minimum of:

  • 55% of aggregate marks if the candidate belongs to the Unreserved/OBC/SAP categories
  • 50% marks if the candidate belongs to SC/ST categories.
  • Appearing candidate in the +2 exam in April / May 2018 are eligible to apply for this CLAT 2018 exam.

Fee Charged For:

SC/ ST Category – Rs.3500/- 

Unreserved/ SAP/ OBC/ Others – Rs.4000/- 

Exam Pattern For CLAT 2018 Exam 

Listed below is the complete overview of the CLAT entrance exam pattern is discussed.

For UG Courses

It’s a complete online exam that consists of 5 sections for which aspirants will be allotted with 2hours. For each wrong answer 0.25 marks will be cutted down.


(i) English & Rreading Comprehension – 40 Max Marks

(ii) General Knowledge /Current Affairs – 50 Max Marks

(iii) Elementary Mathematics – 20 Max Marks

(iv) Legal Aptitude – 20 Max Marks

(v) Logical Reasoning – 20 Max Marks

Duration of the Test: 2 hours

For PG Courses

For PG courses question are asked from three sections namely Constitutional Law, Jurisprudence and Other Law subjects such as Criminal Law, International Law, Family Law, Contract, Property Law, Torts, IPR etc.

(i) Constitutional Law – 50 Max Marks

(ii) Jurisprudence- 50 Max Marks

(iii) Other Law subjects – 50 Max Marks

Total number of questions asked is 200 whereas the time allotted is 2 hours. For each right answer 1 mark is given and for each wrong answer 0.25 marks will be deducted.

CLAT 2018 – Important Dates 

Dates for CLAT 2018 application form filling and entrance exam are revealed now. So have a look over these important dates:

Announcement of Submission of Online Application: 01st January 2018 (Monday)

Last Date of Submission of duly filled in Online Application: 31st March 2018 (Saturday)

Admit cards will be available from: 03rd week of April 2018

Examination Date of CLAT 2018: 13 May 2018 (Sunday, 03.00 PM to 05.00 PM)
