The Graduate Aptitude Test of Engineering (GATE) is an all India examination conducted by six Indian Institutes of Technology and Institutes of Science and seven IIT's (IIT Delhi, IIT Madras, IIT Bombay, IIT Kanpur, IIT Rookie, IIT Guwahati and IIT Kharagpur) on behalf of National Coordinating board-GATE, Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Department of Education, Government of India. The GATE exam identifies the comprehensive understanding of various undergraduate subjects in Engineering and Technology held at National level. The GATE score of a candidate reflects the performance level. Those who will qualify in GATE can take admission in post graduate courses in Engineering, Architecture, and Technology at colleges or Institutes with financial assistance provided by MHRD and other Government agencies.

A valid GATE score candidates with Bachelor's degree in Engineering/Technology or Masters degree in any branch of science or math's or computer application are eligible for admission in Master's degree programs in Engineering or technology and also for doctoral programs in relevant branches with MHRD or other government scholarship or assistantships. The score can also be used by public sectors for employment purpose.


Eligibility


  • Bachelor degree holders in Engineering or technology or Master of Computer application and equivalent who are in final year of such programs are eligible for GATE.
  • Master degree holders in any stream of science/mathematics or computer applications or the same who are in final year are eligible for GATE.
  • Integrated Masters Degree programs in engineering or technology whose program has been completed or in 4th or 5th year are eligible.
  • Post B. Sc integrated Master's degree programs in Engineering or Technology who has completed are eligible.

How to apply

Candidate can apply for GATE exam through following process:

  • You have to apply online which can be accessed by using the GATE link.
  • You must register yourself first with a valid email address.
  • After registration an email id will be sent with a link which will require a password after you click on the link so as to ensure that the information you provide is not be accessible to any other person.
  • You will have to fill application form with the information mention on it.
  • You have to select one of the two payment option while filling online form.
  • Once the application form is filled, there cannot be done any change by the applicant.
  • Applicants those who have selected online payment option have to follow the instruction for payment section and complete the process. And those who have selected challan payment option will proceed to the next step.
  • After this you will get a link to “Download filled application”. You have to download a PDF file from the link and print it which will contain a page. It will have Instructions and address slip where you need to send the hard copy.
  • Those who has selected “bank challan” mode of payment have to click on “Download challan for payment” and take out the print which contains 3 copies of challan to be processed with bank.
