Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) conducts the CMS Exam for the post of Medical Officer in various organizations like in the Indian Ordnance Factories, Indian Railways functioning under the Government of India. . The Notification for the examination is usually released in the month of September and examination is held in month of January. Only Passed candidate of written exam will be selected for interview conducted by the UPSC.

UPSC conducts a Combined Medical Services(CMS) Examination for recruitment to the following posts

(i) Assistant Divisional Medical Officer in the Railways.

(ii) Assistant Divisional Medical Officer in Indian Ordnance Factories Health Service.

(iii) Junior Scale Posts in Central Health Services.

(iv) Medical Officers in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi.

(v) General Duty Medical Officer in New Delhi Municipal Council

Eligibility:

1. Nationality:

A Candidate must be either

i. a citizen of India, or
ii. a subject of Nepal, or
iii. a subject of Bhutan, or
iv. a Tibetan refugee who came over to India before the 01 January , 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India, or
(v). a Person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakisthan, Burma, Sri Lanka and East African countires of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawim Zaire and Ethiopia or Vietnam with the intention of permanently setting in India.
Provided that a candidate belonging to categories (ii), (iii), (iv) and (v) above shall be a person in whose favour a certificate of eligibility has been issued by the Government of India.

2. Age :

Candidates must not have attained the age of 35 years as on 01-01-2013 i.e the canidates must have been born not earlier than 02 January, 1981.

The Upper Age Limit is Relaxable as Follows:

(a) For SC, ST'S candidates 5 years of age relaxation

(b) For OBC candidates 3 years of age relaxation

(c) Age relaxation of 3 years in case of defence services personnel disabled in operations during hostilities with any foreign country or disturbed area.

(d) 5 years Age relaxable for Ex-service men including commissioned officers and ECOs/SSCOs who have completed an initial period of a assignment of 5 years military service.

(e)Ten years Age relaxation for blind, deaf, deaf, mute and handicapped candidates.

(f) Up to maximum of five years in the case of ECO/SSOs who have completed an intial period of assignment of 5 years Military Service.

3. Educational qualification:

The applicant must have passed the written and practical papers of the final M.B.B.S Examination.

The candidate who appeared for final examinations or those who are yet to appear at the final MBBS Examination may also apply.

4. Physical and Medical Standards:

Candidates must be physically and medically Fit according to the physical/medical standards for the Combined Medical Services Examination.

How to apply

Applicants should have valid E-mail ID and scanned copies of photo and signatures before  start applying online application form.

  • Open the official website of UPSC at www.upsconline.nic.in.
  • Select the‘Online Application for Various Examinations of UPSC' link and click on it .

  • The form is divided in two parts, Applicants need to complete Part-I and then fill Part-II of the form.

  • You can choose any option either Online or offline payment to pay application fee & keep the slip for the future reference.

  • Put Scanned signature & photograph in .jpg format in your form. Submitted the application form.

  • you will recieve registration number and password , save it for later use.

  • Take a print of application form for future reference.


Paper Pattern

The Combined Medical Services written exam consists of two papers of 250 marks each. Questions are objective-type multiple choice questions. The Personality Test (interview) has 200 maximum marks.

Paper I -
General Ability: 30 Questions
General Medicine: 70 Questions
Pediatrics: 20 Questions

Paper II -
Surgery: 40 Questions
Gynecology and Obstetrics: 40 Questions
Preventive and Social Medicine: 40 Questions
