CAT is the most popular test among the Management students, as it is the gateway to the cream of, management institutes in India, the IIMs. CAT (Common Admission Test) is a aptitude test, it is the most popular entrance exam used as a criteria for short listing applicants for admissions to the six IIMs-IIM Ahmadabad, IIM Bangalore, IIM Calcutta, IIM Lucknow, IIM Indore, and IIM Kozhikode. It is one of the largest MBA entrance exams conducted in India, annually. The CAT score is also accepted by more than 102 non-IIM institutes across India, some of them are as reputed as IIMs. This test computer based test which scores a person on the bases of quantitative ability , data interpretation , verbal ability and logical reasoning.

Candidates must be a graduate with 50% marks or equivalent and (45% in case of SC/ST/DA/PWD) or an equivalent qualification recognized by ministry of HRD, Government of India. Candidates who are appearing for the final year of Bachelor's degree/those who have completed degree requirements and are awaiting results can also apply.

Test Duration & Pattern -- Usually CAT is based on three major abilities of the candidates on Problem Solving- Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning- Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension . CAT demands competency across all sections of the paper. So, the number of sections does not matter, what matters is whether the candidates are competitive and are able to answer the questions in all the sections. CAT has evolved from a speed based simple test into a test which demands more in concepts and fundamentals rather than just speed.

All the questions are of multiple-choice nature with four/five alternate answer choices and the candidate has to choose the best answer for each of the questions and mark it. The exam consists of two sections

•  The candidates cannot choose a section to attempt first. The Quantitative Ability & Data Interpretation section is presented first, followed by Verbal Ability & Logical Reasoning.

•  Each section of the paper is timed separately. Once a section ends, candidate can no longer go back to it. On-screen timer is made available for both the sections each counting down 1 hour and 10 minutes (i.e. 70 minutes).

•  When the time is up, the first section ends and the candidate can no longer go back to it. The second section then begins with the on-screen timer counting down from 1 hour 10 minutes again. Once the second section ends, the test will end.

•  The candidate cannot end the first section before 70 minutes are up. However, he/she can end the second section before 70 minutes are up.

Exam Format- CAT is now a computer based test, conducted in multiple cities across India, in about 3-4 weeks. The candidate can select his/her test date and slot as per their choice and availability.

How To Apply-

  • Firstly the candidates have to buy scratch voucher selected branches of Axis Bank.

  • Then they have to register online at the CAT website.

  • Then the candidates have to choose the date of examination and then the timing 10 a.m. session or the 3:30 p.m. session.

  • The candidate must show the original mark sheets and submit the photocopies to prove their eligibility at the time of interview. Further, if they are selected for the program, they have to submit their original degree certificate and mark sheets along with their photocopies.
